Summer is in full swing. And our New England Coast and New York Adirondack Opal hotels and resorts are ready to make it stellar with these new activities and offerings, including refreshed and renewed waterside cottages at Samoset Resort, a new gourmet burger dining outlet at The Sagamore Resort, and commemorative 150th-anniversary goodies at Wentworth by the Sea.
Opal may have just announced three new and novel properties coming to the Gulf Coast of Florida in 2024/2025, but don’t let that lead you to believe there’s nothing noteworthy going on at our resorts along the New England Coast and in the New York Adirondacks. In fact, it seems like summer is very much in full swing. And we’ve got the exciting new activities and attractions to base a stay around.
A GOURMET BURGER RESTAURANT COMES TO LAKE GEORGE
The Sagamore Resort | Bolton Landing, NY
As if the already diverse assortment of on-site dining outlets weren’t enough, The Sagamore Resort just added one more to the roster: BRGR Kitchen & Bar, a gourmet burger restaurant. While totally new to Lake George, BRGR Kitchen & Bar is actually a signature Opal Collection restaurant with another location at Treasure Island Beach Resort, a sibling Opal just outside of St. Pete, Florida.
So what’s so special about these burgers? For one, it’s a premier patty, made from an Opal signature custom beef grind with just the perfect ratio of texture, flavor, and fat. That means it’s plump, juicy, and with a nice char that gives way to tender meat within. And two, these aren’t your basic burger creations. Creative menu concoctions – with names like The Nooner, The Attitude, and Black ‘N’ Blue – come topped with accoutrements like applewood smoked bacon, fried hen’s egg, crispy or IPA-braised onions, age cheddar, and more.
NEW MASSAGE TREATMENT COMING TO LAKE PLACID
Lake Placid Lodge | Lake Placid, NY
Lake Placid Lodge may not be home to an on-site spa, but that has never stopped the property from offering spa treatments to its guests. In fact, for several years, the property has partnered with a local massage therapist, Susan Homa of Divinely Sue, who brings a range of services directly to your lakeside guestroom, suite, or cabin – including Swedish, deep-tissue, and prenatal massages and all customizable to your needs.
However, this summer, Homa is excited to announce a new offering she’s bringing to the treatment table: Lomi Lomi massage, which incorporates long, flowing strokes and rhythmic movements using Homa’s forearms and palms. Not only does this traditional Polynesian massage technique induce deep relaxation, it helps enhance blood and lymphatic circulation, promoting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues – a great way to reduce muscle pain or stiffness. And after bagging a nearby High Peak, this is a remedy you’ll want to have at the ready.
FOUR REFRESHED COTTAGES SET BESIDE PENOBSCOT BAY
Samoset Resort | Rockport, ME
If you’re already a fan of the four standalone cottages that line the outer edges of Samoset’s sprawling 230-acre waterside property, believe it or not, there’s more to love about them this season. That’s because, over the winter, all four cottages were refinished and refurnished. Think brand new cool-blue walls, beachy-white cabinetry, and coastal furnishings, like plush couches, new coffee tables, dining room tables and chairs, and more. In fact, the wood-lined sunrooms in the one- and two-bedroom guest cottages (which already offer stunning 180-degree views of the harbor) have become even more breathtaking with the addition of fresh new seating, perfect for leisurely afternoons.
That also means the famous Flume Cottage – a 1,500-square-foot two-bedroom setup perched on a rock foundation that extends directly into the ocean – also saw the same design refresh. What’s not different? The unmatched watery vistas taken in from the central open-concept living area, the bedrooms, and private deck with an outdoor hot tub.
SPECIAL 150TH ANNIVERSARY POSTCARDS
Wentworth by the Sea | New Castle, NH
Wentworth by the Sea’s June programming, celebrating the historic seaside resort’s 150th anniversary, may be well underway with a special $150 resort credit offer, drink and dinner specials in Salt Kitchen & Bar, hotel history tours, high-tea in the lobby, and more. But that doesn’t mean once June ends, there aren’t other ways you can take a bit of the hotel’s history home with you.
One example: special commemorative postcards being sold in the resort’s retail outlet. They’re actually replicas of historic postcards from Wentworth’s archives – some of which had postmarks dating as far back as 1913! Depicting the hotel property over the ages, they come in packs of five and make for a sweet souvenir.
FRESH & FUN KIDS PROGRAMMING AT A PRIVATE CLUB
West Street Hotel and Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina | Bar Harbor, ME
One of the most beautiful things about a stay at either West Street Hotel or Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina? Access to the Bar Harbor Club, an exclusive private club and amenity extended to guests of both these sibling Bar Harbor hotels that is based just next door. And what an amenity it is. Set in a historic Tudor-style building on the edge of Frenchman Bay, the facility is home to a 75-foot pool, 11,000-square-foot Pool House, four-room spa, and massive 25,000-gallon hot tub.
But what guests – particularly families – might not be aware of this summer is the club’s fresh new kids programming. A few you can expect: 5 p.m. movie nights showcasing Disney favorites in the Club House’s game room, evening s’mores on the beach, and outdoor games at the pool and on the beach (like spike ball and ladder golf). No sign-up required – just show up and enjoy.
