Why this is the year to reacquaint yourself with Treasure Island Beach Resort and the towns surrounding it.
New at Treasure Island Beach Resort
Saturday Dive-In Movie Nights
Order some light bites from BRGR Kitchen + Bar for the free films that, starting this past summer, now project on the giant blow-up screen at the resort’s Gulf-side pool every Saturday night. Starting at dusk, families can perch on the pool deck (or float in the pool) and take in recently released PG-rated blockbusters – think titles like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Toy Story 4.
Wellness Beach Yoga Package
Want to indulge in a little mindful meditation while on vacation? Every Saturday and Sunday morning, the front desk advertises a yoga class (you don’t have to book prior to arrival) that takes place just outside the resort on the three-mile stretch of beach. For just $25, the resort provides the mats and the certified instructor from a local studio to walk you through poses (all levels are welcome), plus follows up the sun salutations with breakfast smoothies of your choice.
New Menu Items at BRGR Kitchen & Bar
The resort’s on-site restaurant, BRGR Kitchen & Bar, blends a cool contemporary style with retro details to create a space that is both fun and sophisticated with a special focus on – what else? – gourmet burgers. New to the menu in 2020 is the Surfside Wagyu Beef Burger, featuring the highly-prized cut of meat topped with American and provolone cheese, smoked bacon, onion jam, baby arugula, and a fried egg on a toasted brioche bun; and the Steak Tacos, serving up seared steak with house-made salsa, fresh avocado, and pineapple coleslaw on flour tortillas. Craving something sweet? Also new is the Oatmeal-Banana Crème Brulee, featuring brown sugar and local honey.
Board Games at the Front Desk
Did a raincloud just pass overhead? Or just need something to keep the kids busy while you have a bite at BRGR Bar? New behind the front desk is a special assortment of games – including everything from Connect Four, Monopoly, Backgammon, Chess, Jenga, and more – that you can borrow and bring to wherever you need.
Added Elements of Service
Is it an anniversary? Someone’s birthday? Let the front desk know before you book, when you arrive, or whenever! The resort has been known to surprise guests with tiny cakes, handwritten cards, cheese plates, and bottles of wine. In fact, it’s one of the things guests comment on most in the lobby comment cards.
New in Treasure Island & St Petersburg, Florida
Digital Experiences at The Dalí Museum
As if St. Petersburg’s Salvador Dalí Museum wasn’t impressive enough with its unparalleled collection of more than 2,400 Salvador Dalí works (including nearly 300 oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings), now there’s even more to be amazed by. New in 2019, on the 30th anniversary of the artist’s death, the iconic museum unveiled “Dalí Lives,” an exhibit that brings the iconic artist back to life using augmented and virtual reality. Essentially, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about Dalí’s life and work from the person who knew him best – the artist himself – through high-tech offerings that create a version of Dalí’s likeness.
Sunken Gardens Centennial Year
In 2020, the botanical paradise of Sunken Gardens observed its 100th anniversary. While a celebration to mark the landmark year already occurred in January, you can pay homage in your own way by visiting the four-acre roadside attraction located in the midst of bustling St Petersburg. Meander down paths flanked by exotic plants from around the world, photograph cascading waterfalls, and explore the demonstration gardens containing more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers.
26 New Mural Artworks
Each year, in conjunction with downtown St. Pete’s annual two-week long SHINE Mural Festival, roughly 15 new murals are commissioned and produced. In 2019, however, a whopping 26 local and international artists were selected, with a call going out to the St. Pete art scene for local artists to be featured and selected. While it includes new work from international artists like Germany’s Low Bros, Jamaica’s Taj Tenfold, and Mexico’s Paola Delfin, some of the locally produced pieces you’ll want to seek out are by Palehorse, Princess Smith, and David Charlton. Want help finding them? Book a guided tour with St. Pete Mural Tour, offered every Saturday morning and visiting over 30 murals found in a four-block stretch.
Mary Margaret’s Old Irish Tavern
Opening on St Patrick’s Day in 2020, the long-awaited authentic Irish Tavern, Mary Margaret’s, is being brought to you by the two St. Petersburg natives who own another acclaimed tavern in downtown (The Galley). In addition to classic items like the Proper Shepherd’s Pie (with lamb), Kennedy’s Corned Beef and Cabbage, and The Reuben Sandwich with Guinness gravy, expect to be greeted with the largest selection of Irish whiskey in the area, including high-end offerings like Green Spot, Middleton Very Rare, and Red Breast. Slainte!
