Our Picks: Top Sunset Spots

The best sunset spots across the East Coast make our list for both natural and man-made attractions.

Along Rockland Breakwater [Rockland Harbor, ME]

An orange-red sunset brings out the color of the pink granite in this mile-long walkway that juts out into the harbor, filling the whole scene with colors reflected onto the water and against the sails of schooners out for an evening cruise.

Where to Stay Samoset Resort

Moonlight Movies [Clearwater Beach, FL]

Fire eaters, stilt walkers, and live music can draw quite the nightly crowd at Pier 60. But on select Friday or Saturday nights throughout the year Pier 60 offers up free film screenings. Check out their website for what’s planned during your stay, thrown down a blanket, grab a bucket of popcorn, and let the children enjoy an evening show while you cuddle up and watch the backdrop of ombre orange hues.

Where to Stay Sandpearl Resort

Picnic Getaway [Lake George, NY]

Speaker Heck Island, a small picnic island accessible by kayak or boat, sits six miles south of Bolton Landing. If you look back at the western shore, the Adirondacks are a bit lower, thus allowing a longer view of the sun’s last gasp casting its glow over the lake and mountains.

Where to Stay The Sagamore Resort

Dancing with the Sun [Key West, FL]

While the setting sun on the Atlantic might make Mallory Square the best sunset spot for Key West, it’s actually the plethora of buskers that makes this spot special. Think flaming Hula-Hoop acts and Dominque the Cat Man, who has been training acrobatic kittens since 1981.

Where to Stay Sunset Key Cottages | The Capitana Key West | Opal Key Resort & Marina | The Laureate Key West

Blue Hill Overlook [Bar Harbor, ME]

Perhaps the best spot on Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunset is Blue Hill Overlook, the last pullout a quarter-mile before the top of the mountain. But if you can’t beat ’em (to Cadillac Mountain for an epic Acadia sunset), join ’em! There are plenty of amazing sunset experiences to enjoy, no matter where you’re viewing from. Cozy up from your car, find that perfect spot along a new path, grab dinner downtown to catch the sky’s show outside, or simply enjoy the view from your room when staying with us.
